GENERAL COUNSEL | INTERNATIONAL | EXECUTIVE SEARCH
We are looking for an excellent General Counsel to head our Client’s legal team, adding value to and being the “backbone” of our Client’s business. You will ensure that we operate within the law and regulations at all times and in all areas of functions (traditional business and company’s branch related), offer counsel on legal issues, administer an effective panel of external counsel across all the jurisdictions our client operates in and facilitate business strategy development. The successful candidate will be able to ensure legal compliance and limit risk exposure by providing actionable advice. Understanding the specific needs and requirements in the company’s branch areas is highly valued.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert and strategic legal advice to management
- Lead the company’s legal governance, risk management and compliance
- Set internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factors
- Evaluate and weigh multiple inputs and impacts of any decision or course of action
- Anticipate issues and estimate risks strategically on a group level
- Identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks
- Base for decision making process on ethics and integrity whilst meeting legal objectives
- Create associations of trust and respect with key stakeholders
- Deal with external parties (law firms, business vendors, contractual counterparties, regulators)
- Attract, develop, direct, motivate and drive performance from the in-house legal team
- Draft, negotiate and review agreements that minimize risks and maximize business opportunities
- Deal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas
- Keep abreast of legislative and technological changes
Requirements
- Proven General Counsel-level experience in business environment, preferably in company’s branch
- Overall broad legal knowledge (corporate law, securities law, data protection, litigation, labor law, etc)
- In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organisations
- Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives and deploy appropriate technology
- Well-versed in how businesses operate with financial acumen
- High degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas
- Excellent judgement, leadership and analytical skills
- First class interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to anticipate legal issues or risks and to “see around the corner”
- Law degree or post-graduate legal qualification
- MBA and/or a privacy certification will be considered an asset
