Maillefer is looking for an  

Automation & Commissioning Engineer  

to join its Automation team in Vantaa. You will design, program, test and commission industrial automation systems for international customer projects. Your involvement will cover the full project lifecycle, from software development and machine testing to commissioning and final handover at the customer’s production site. 

This position is well suited to a hands-on automation professional who enjoys solving technical challenges, working closely with industrial machinery and seeing the concrete results of their own work. 

Your role 

You will develop automation solutions for Maillefer’s production machinery and lines. Working together with mechanical, electrical and process engineering professionals, you will ensure that the automation supports both the required production technology and the performance promised to the customer. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Designing, programming and commissioning PLC-based automation systems  
  • Developing and maintaining control software using Siemens Classic STEP 7 and TIA Portal  
  • Configuring and commissioning Siemens and ABB drives  
  • Developing and supporting HMI and SCADA applications  
  • Participating in machine testing, FAT and SAT activities  
  • Commissioning production equipment at customer sites  
  • Troubleshooting and optimising new and existing automation systems  
  • Preparing technical documentation and providing technical support to customers  

The position involves international travel and working directly with customers at their production facilities. Travel may amount to up to 18 weeks per year, depending on the project situation. Commissioning assignments vary in duration and provide an opportunity to work with different technologies, production environments and cultures. 

What we expect from you 

You have a degree or equivalent technical education in automation, electrical engineering or a related field. You also have a solid understanding of industrial automation, control systems and field devices, together with practical experience in PLC programming, commissioning or troubleshooting industrial equipment. 

Experience with the following technologies will provide a strong foundation for the position: 

  • Siemens PLCs, particularly Classic STEP 7 and TIA Portal  
  • Siemens or ABB drives  
  • Industrial HMI and SCADA systems  
  • Industrial networks, control systems and field devices  

Experience with Wonderware or AVEVA HMI and SCADA applications, Allen-Bradley or Rockwell Automation PLCs, or machinery safety systems and standards is considered an advantage. 

You communicate confidently in English and are willing to travel internationally. Finnish language skills are beneficial but not essential.

You enjoy practical problem-solving and remain calm when technical situations require systematic troubleshooting. You work independently and take responsibility for completing your assignments, while also recognising when cooperation or support from colleagues is needed. 

You approach your work in a structured and solution-oriented manner. Open communication, willingness to learn and the ability to collaborate with customers and specialists from different technical backgrounds are essential in this role.
