VP, Engineering | Managing Director, Finland
About the Role
Topcon Healthcare Solutions EMEA (Finland) is strengthening its role within the global organization as a center of excellence for eyecare software and AI-driven digital health.
The Finnish entity employs about 100 people in total, of whom roughly 60 work in engineering.
Based in Oulu, this hub is a cornerstone of Topcon’s innovation network—combining deep technical expertise with a shared commitment to continuous improvement and cross-border collaboration.
We are now looking for a Vice President, Engineering, who will also serve as the Managing Director of Topcon Healthcare Solutions Finland. This dual role combines global accountability for software engineering and delivery with statutory and cultural leadership of the Finnish entity. The VP Engineering / MD will guide the organization in taking its next step—building an empowered, accountable, and purpose-driven community that contributes decisively to Topcon’s global growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop Topcon’s Oulu engineering hub (~60 FTE) with global responsibility for eyecare and digital health software development.
- Act as statutory Managing Director of the Finnish entity, ensuring compliance, legal and HR oversight, and day-to-day operational leadership.
- Drive cultural transformation from conservative, process-heavy ways of working to an empowered, accountable, and performance-driven culture.
- Ensure predictable, secure, and high-quality software delivery, aligned with U.S. product management and global operations.
- Integrate AI and advanced analytics capabilities into product development.
- Strengthen collaboration and trust between Finland, the U.S., Germany, and Japan.
- Build leadership capacity and a strong local management team in Finland.
Your Profile
We are looking for a seasoned technology leader with a strong track record in software-intensive R&D organizations and international collaboration.
Must-haves:
- Proven leadership in software-driven engineering or R&D environments (10–15+ years; teams of 50–70+).
- Demonstrated success in cultural and organizational transformation.
- Experience aligning local execution with global product and customer needs (U.S./Europe/Asia).
- Strong people leadership and interpersonal skills — able to inspire, empower, and take decisive action when needed.
- Fluent Finnish and English, with physical presence in Oulu.
Nice-to-haves:
- Background in medtech, healthtech, or other regulated software industries.
- Experience or strong interest in AI integration in product development.
- Familiarity with dual-reporting or matrix organizations.
